Step Towards English Proficiency

STEP is designed for students who hope to further consolidate and develop their English language skills, whilst also gaining an understanding of Economics, Business, Law and International Affairs. All students will attend morning lectures in both Economics/Business and Law/International Affairs, and will also participate in English & Communication tutorials to develop and strengthen their writing, listening, reading and speaking skills.

 

Course Syllabus:

English & Communication

  • Consolidate knowledge in grammatical structures and grammatical tenses

  • Guidance on academic writing

  • Guidance on writing articles

  • Guidance on writing essays

  • Guidance on interviews

  • Guidance on public-speaking

  • Increase vocabulary base

  • Giving presentations

  • Present tense & Present Continuous tense;

  • Past tense & Past Continuous tense;

  • Future tense;

  • Past Perfect tense, Past Perfect Continuous tense, Present Perfect tense, Present Perfect Continuous tense;

  • Passive Voice & Active Voice;

  • Indirect Speech and Direct Speech;

  • Conjunctions & Prepositions; 

  • Modals & Auxiliary Verbs;

  • Relative Clauses; and

  • Adjectives & Adverbs.

Grammar includes the following:

Students will attend lectures in Law, International Relations, Economics and Business in the mornings, and will have to attend English tutorials in the afternoons.
